At Royal Oak Intermediate School the first bell rings at 8:40 am. We ask for your support in ensuring your child is at school by 8:35 am each day. This allows for them to catch up with friends briefly, get to class and get everything ready for the start of the day. The school day finishes at 3.00 pm.
If your child is unable to attend school or is going to be late for any reason it is your responsibility to inform us. You can:
- Fill in and submit the online form.
- Email absences@royaloakint.school.nz
- Call the school on (09) 636-5667 and choose option 1 (This absence line is open 24 hours). Leave your child’s full name, room number/teachers name, a reason for not coming to school and if possible a contact phone number.
School-wide assemblies are held on a regular basis. At these information and items are shared across the school. Throughout the assemblies, certificates and awards are given to recognise student achievements.

Meetings are held monthly and are open to the public.

May be bought to school however all students must put their Cell phones, Wallets, bus card/ money etc into the classroom security box in the morning. These boxes are locked up then any items returned to the students at the end of the day.
We have four houses – Binsted – Red, Buchanan – Green, Grainger – Yellow and Jordan – Blue. All students are allocated a house.
Students are encouraged to borrow books from our fantastic school library. Each class has a weekly library period and the library is open at lunchtimes. Books are issued for two weeks. Please assist your child in taking good care of them as families are liable for replacement costs for books that are lost or damaged. Students with overdue books are issued with an overdue reminder.
We are part of the government scheme – Ka Ora Ka Ako Healthy Lunches – so lunch is provided for every student. Each morning a truck drops the lunches to the hall Wharekai. Surplus lunches are available in the hall at lunchtime for kids who would like more food.
Special lunches are catered for – Halal, Gluten Free, Allergies, Vegetarian & Vegan.
Important messages from home may be passed to children via the school office when necessary.
Two written reports are issued each year, one at mid year and one at the end of year.
Scheduled in Term One and Term Three. Parents are welcome to seek additional meetings with teachers at any time.
