Royal Oak Intermediate Music Class
In Music class, ākonga study the four aspects of the Music Curriculum over the course of two years. The programme covers:
- Understanding Context – This includes learning about different genres of music as well as about various instruments.
- Developing Practical Knowledge – Ākonga learn to read music and play the following instruments: ukulele, bucket drums, glockenspiel/xylophone, and keyboard.
- Developing Ideas – This includes composing music using an online digital audio workstation.
- Communicating and Interpreting – Ākonga rehearse with others and then perform a short piece of music in front of the rest of the class and their classroom teacher.


Engaging in a Music Community
At Royal Oak Intermediate there is also the opportunity to be part of the choir, the Kiwilele ukulele group, and school bands. Group lessons for guitar, keyboard, drums, and violin are also available.
